This client has a house in Italy and she’s fascinated with the Medici colors. She brought us a poster of Eleanor of Toledo, the wife of Cosimo I de Medici, the first grand Duke of Tuscany and told us that she wanted the entire apartment to feel like that painting. The apartment had been stripped of all architectural decorations in 1970. The client wanted us to bring the beautiful moldings and carvings back and use a lot of antiques but keep the apartment modern. One of the first decisions was to select a sage green to bathe the entire apartment. The floors were kept bare and stained with the same sage hue. The result is a classic but modern interior, in which color unifies a variety of furniture styles.
